What I Talk About When I Talk About Running
I’ll accept any chance to talk about running. Any time.
Trail & Ultra Running asked me to chat and I happily agreed! The full interview is available here. I loved speaking with Mark Kreuzer from TAUR. Even though he knows Utah trails and I’m more familiar with bridges, we bonded over this crazy thing we do for miles and miles.
A snippet from my talk with Mark:
Robin Arzon and along with crews of street runners across the globe have created a fascinating new facet to running. Everything else I’ve seen in the last few years is gimmick…THIS, on the other hand, is authentic and real. From the first time I encountered Robin’s Tumblr page, I’ve been enthralled.
Robin, the NYC Bridge Runners, and other global running crews are unique in ways you have to visually experience for yourself. When I finally caught up with Robin (having just arriving back from Europe) one of my first questions was, “I’m so intrigue by you and your fellow runners’ style… how do you even go about explaining it?” Robin’s answer a straight up perfect, “It’s running that marries art, music, fashion and street culture.”
In the time we spent on the phone I got to know more about this multi-talent lawyer, ultra runner and social media mogul who’s helping change how we can experience running.
TAUR: Going back, how did you get started in running in the first place?
Robin: I was in law school and would go out for 2 mile runs between classes. One day I saw a poster for a 10k, without even knowing what that meant I showed up for the race the next morning. I was so sore afterward but I was hooked. I remained a solo runner through law school but after moving back to New York I discovered the Bridge Runners crew. MORE
Bridge The Gap: The Story Behind the Bridge
For those of you who follow Run Dem and the other global running crews ‘Bridge The Gap’ as you know is an event where we come together to race through a city and party hard afterwards. The name Bridge The Gap was termed by Mike Saes during a meeting in New York between key members of the Bridge Runners Crew, Mike and myself in his kitchen after a Bridge Run. The idea was to join the dots between the crews and amplify the creative side of what we do and show how creativity and running can inform each other. Mike and myself share a common love of old school Hip Hp music and the seeds of Bridge The Gap were sound tracked by this record and the producer in this video.
Marley Marl is the Yoda behind a load of 80’s and 90’s Hip Hop classics and in this video he breaks down the science behind how the Bridge came about. Sit back and relax as a master breaks it down.
who needs a headlamp when you have the bright lights of the big city?!!?
the 31st Platoon from Hell’s Gate and back! We would have a lot to say about our Spring Forward Ultra but a picture’s worth a thousand words. Here’s a lot of words from the first leg of our 9 BRidge Tour by New BTG Family Member Justin Izzo. He did a search and rescue mission for us and popped out of the shadows of the FDR like an Angel with Kind Bars, VitaCoco and Vitamin Water! thanks dude!
