What a day filled with Olympic goodness! Swimming kicked off the Games with the marquee rivalry between Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Both competed in the 400M Individual Medley competition.
Phelps’ heat was a nail biter as he narrowly beat Hungarian swimmer Laslo Cseh. Pictured above is the last second of that heat. Lochte, my boyfriend favorite Team USA member, came in second in his heat, but bested Phelps’ time. Let’s see how they fair in the final tonight!
Phelps and Cseh were .07 seconds apart.

Lochte in the lead.
Ok the swimming was great, but did I mention THE QUEEN made an appearance? Check out here purple suit. What a babe. She’s tiny with some major royal swagger. Moments after exiting the Aquatics Center I saw London’s Mayor Boris Johnson. He was too speedy for me to iPhoto stalk.
And back to Lochte:
Moments before this photo was taken Lochte and I locked eyes (pun intended) and smiled at each other. My fan geek out in this moment rivals when I met Stevie Wonder, or when Twilight fans see Robert Pattison. I will interview this babe one day! Any journalistic objectivity will, however, be out the window considering I am absolutely in love.
Where did all this happiness go down?
The Olympic Park is like an amusement park, but the rides are sporting events! There is so much to do there and an impressive array of food (Thai, Mexican, Hummus, Smoothies, Italian - and a MEGA McDonald’s gross).
Entry to the Games was seamless and the army of volunteers kept the place running smoothly. Sponsors like Visa, Samsung, BP and Coca Cola have 3D movies, performers, band shells, and games set up to keep the crowds entertained in between competitions.
Day one - done did it. Tomorrow I get to hang with the street athletes of London, the Spartan fam. Ahooo.
